I will always use it on the loudest setting. This timer is louder than some I have tried and does have a rather annoying timbre which is in its favour but I still think it could be louder hence the 4 rather than 5 score. I want a timer that I don't have to carry around with me but that I can leave in the kitchen and still hear from another room. I chose this timer because other reviewers said that it was really loud.
